The Betting
How it all works
The tote is opened and tickets sold. There is no limit on the amount of tickets that may be purchased. A race is then selected at random and the race is run. The money collected is split between the fund raiser and the winners. An example of the money raised from the tote is as follows:
In race one:-
Horse 1. sells 10 tickets @ 50p = £5.00 Horse 2. sells 8 tickets @ 50p = £4.00
Horse 3. sells 16 tickets @ 50p = £8.00 Horse 4. sells 4 tickets @ 50p = £2.00
Horse 5. sells 15 tickets @ 50p = £7.50 Horse 6. sells 16 tickets @ 50p = £8.00
Horse 7. sells 20 tickets @ 50p = £10.00 Horse 8. sells 15 tickets @ 50p = £7.50
A total of £52.00
Tickets can be sold at whatever price you like 20p/50p/£1. You decide. If in the above example the £52 from the first race is split 50/50 then the fund-raiser would make £26 and the winning ticket holders would share £26. If Horse 4 won this would be £26 split between 4 punters which equals £6.50 each. If Horse 7 won then there would be 20 winning tickets with a pay-out of £1.30 each.
This is just the first of up to eight races.
You can raise additional funds prior to the race night by selling horses and jockeys and finding sponsors for each race. We can supply pre-printed paperwork for you to use (downloadable from this site or this just give us a ring and request a race pack) We will also supply a fun program for you to photocopy or you may wish to create your own.
Horses and Jockeys.
Sell the horses for say £2.00. This raises £16 per race. You can then pay £10 or a bottle of sprits (donated by a sponsor) to the winning horse owner and put £16 into the fund. 8 races = £128.
You can do the same with the Jockeys by selling them prior to the race providing your race has been sponsored twice and raise a further £128.
You can charge what you like for the horses and jockeys.
Sponsors
Find a local business or shop to sponsor a race for £10 or a bottle of spirits per race and name the race after the sponsor. For corporate events give us the details of your sponsors 7 days prior to your event we will project their names or business names onto the big screen while the bets are being taken for their race. You can use this as a selling point to your sponsors.
By pre-selling you should be able to go into profit before the race night is held and before the tote starts adding to the fund. In addition to all of this there are other ways of raising additional funds on the night such as dual forecast lucky dips, a tri-cast sheet, a raffle and stand up bingo.
